Hiring the Services of a Professional Organiser – Myth vs Truth

Hiring the Services of a Professional Organiser – Myth vs Truth

What does a Professional Organiser do?

A Professional Organiser helps people create order in their home and office and helps in saving time and money by reducing the stress and frustration in people’s lives which disorganisation brings.

Why you would hire a Professional Organiser:

You’ve read the books and tried to get organised but somewhere along the line you stopped. You find yourself back at the beginning again with no progress made.

When you’ve come to the realisation that you simply don’t have the time to tackle organising on your own and need an extra pair of hands to help you. You lead a busy life and don’t have the time to go through the process on your own and need an organiser by your side to move things along faster.

You don’t want to tackle the clutter and organising project on your own. You may be able to do it, but you simply don’t want to put your time into it, preferring to spend your time elsewhere. Therefore, you delegate work to your Organiser.

What areas can Your Personal Organiser help you with?

Vicki can help you with whole of home organising or help with specific areas in the home. Areas like, the home office, the kid’s bedrooms, kitchen, laundry, linen cupboards, bathroom, wardrobe and garage are some of the areas.

Vicki can help with your To-Do List and help organise your desk space and paperwork more efficiently. Here are some common Myths about Hiring a Professional Organiser

Myth 1 – You will make me throw away my belongings!

I will not throw away your belongings without your permission. We will work together to make informed decisions about items to keep and items to let go of. Ultimately the decision is yours.

Myth 2 – I don’t want to throw perfectly good things away (I don’t want to fill up landfill – I would rather keep the items I don’t want rather than fill up landfill).

I do not want you to throw good items away either or fill up landfill. I can offer suggestions for the things you have decided you no longer need. You can donate, sell or giveaway your items so that they find their way into the hands of people who can use them. Again the decision is yours.

Myth 3 – It will cost too much to hire an Organiser!

You can invest a small amount of money or a large amount of money – this will be dependent on your needs and what you wish to achieve. What is it worth to you to have more time and energy for the things you really enjoy doing? How much are you willing to invest so that you are living your best life?

Myth 4 – If I decide to get things organised does that mean I have to spend money on ugly plastic containers?

Most of the time you will be able to find and use storage you already have instead of buying more “stuff”. Clients find it gratifying to find a new purpose for ignored and forgotten items. Your organiser can suggest some things to consider buying if you cannot find suitable items for storage.

Myth 5 – Everything is already neat and tidy, so organising doesn’t really apply to me!

Neat and tidy is not the same as organised. Having unwanted, unneeded, unused items arranged neatly does not mean you are organised. If things are organised, it is likely you don’t have large amounts of unused, unwanted, broken items taking up valuable space. When your belongings are organised you can find them easily with a minimum of fuss when you need them. You know where things go when you want to put them away and you are more likely to feel like you have things under control and life is running smoothly.

Myth 6 – It won’t take you very long to get me organised, will it?

It’s unlikely that your level of disorganisation happened over the course of a few hours. It probably happened gradually – a few papers not dealt with, followed by more unfinished items, and items not put away after use. Life events, illness or added responsibilities at home and work have prevented you from staying organised. Slowly you discovered you were living with clutter around you and you wondered how all of this happened.
It will take time to complete an organising project and to create systems to work for you. The 30 minute television shows are not a realistic picture of the time and energy that is really required to organise your home.

Myth 7 – I feel overwhelmed at the thought of starting to organise my space. Can you just come in and organise it while I am away for a few days.

Unfortunately no. The client should be making the decisions about what is important to them and not the organiser. As your organiser I can guide you and offer options to you.

Myth 8 – I bet my place is the worst you’ve seen!

I’m here to help you, not judge you. There is usually nothing about your situation, your home or workplace that is going to surprise.

Myth 9 – When I get this organising project finished, I’m done!

Organising is a continuous process, it’s like car maintenance – you don’t have maintenance once and never do it again. Your car requires maintenance work regularly so it is working efficiently for you. The same is true for the organising systems you’ve created – it’s necessary to maintain them so they work the best they can for you. This could mean fine tuning them so they work even better or making modifications when your circumstances change.
